A closer look at Camrose Pride Week 2019
Pride Week is a collective celebration of LGBTQ2SIA+ individuals and communities at Augustana and in Camrose. This year, the planning and implementation of Pride Week was a collaborative effort by the Augustana Students’ Association, the Augustana Queers and Allies (AQUA), the Camrose Pride Community, and the Pride Committee.
Monday (February 25)
This year, the City of Camrose Council voted to raise the pride flag every year until it is no longer needed. Join Mayor Mayer as he raises the flag to support the start of Pride Week 2019!
12-3PM: Tie-Dye Party in the Augustana Forum
Join the Augustana Queers and Allies (AQUA) for an afternoon of tie-dyeing – drop in at any time to make a colourful rainbow item. The Aboriginal Students’ Office will serve free tie-dye bannock. Bring an item to tie-dye or purchase socks from AQUA for $2!
5 PM: RuPaul Trivia Night at the Fox and the Fable Cafe
Celebrate the start of Pride Week with a special trivia night, hosted by Camrose’s own Robyn Bank$! To reserve your seat, get your tickets at the Library and the Fox & Fable, or reserve through email@example.com. Reserve for your team of 4 people, or join a team when you come. Open for supper at 5:00 pm and registration will start at 6:00 pm.
Tuesday (February 26)
10-2 PM: So You Think You Can LGBTQ+ with the Science Club in the Augustana Forum
Think you know everything about the LGBTQ+ community? Check out the trivia game hosted by the Science Club to test your knowledge!
10-2 PM: Sex Chats with Tracey Burnett in the Augustana Forum
Join Alberta Health Services sex educator Tracey Burnett in the forum to ask questions about sex!
12-2 PM: Live Poets’ Society Rainbow Cotton Candy Sale in the Augustana Forum
Support the Live Poets’ Society fundraiser by purchasing yummy rainbow cotton candy of various flavours between $3-5 per package!
5PM-6 PM: Queer Sexual Health with Tracey Burnett at the Camrose Public Library
Learn more about healthy and safe sex in the LGBTQ2S+ community.
7PM-8 PM: Talk and Shop with the Traveling Tickle Trunk in the Roger Epp Room
Join Edmonton’s own sex-positive adult toy boutique, The Traveling Tickle Trunk, for a talk and shop with the owner. Don’t miss your chance to win door prizes! Note: a discreet area for purchases will be provided.
Beers for Queers is a social gathering for members of the LGBTQ2S+ community and allies to get together over food and drinks. Don’t forget to grab your free ticket from Eventbrite. There will be games and a chance to win a $100 Brewhouse Giftcard.
Wednesday (February 27)
10-3 PM: Pride Bake Sale in the Augustana Forum
Pick up your pride-themed treats and support the Augustana Queers and Allies (AQUA).
10-3 PM: Camrose Public Library Display in the Augustana Forum
Check out the LGBTQ2S+ themed books offered by the Camrose Library and purchase your very own rainbow pride socks for $12!
9:30 PM: Pride Night at the Duggan Cinema
Join the Camrose Pride Community at the Duggan Cinema for a screening of “Pride”. Admission by donation – doors open at 9 PM.
Film Synopsis: Its the summer of 1984 Margaret Thatcher is in power and the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) is on strike. At the Gay Pride March in London, a group of gay and lesbian activists decides to raise money to support the families of the striking miners. But there is a problem. The Union seems embarrassed to receive their support. But the activists are not deterred. They decide to ignore the Union and go direct to the miners. They identify a mining village in deepest Wales and set off in a minibus to make their donation in person. And so begins the extraordinary story of two seemingly alien communities who form a surprising and ultimately triumphant partnership.
Thursday (February 28)
11:30-1 PM: Queer Folx of the Bible Talk and Gelato Tasting in the Augustana Forum
Join Augustana Chaplaincy for a taste of gelato and a chat about the queer folx of the Bible! The discussion starts at noon.
2 PM: Group Pride Photo in the Augustana Forum
Show your colours and your support in the annual Pride Week group photo.
7 PM: Queer Like Me Art Show Opening at the Camrose Public Library
Join the Camrose Pride Community and Haven Art Therapy to view the work of LGBTQ2S+ artists from Camrose. Learn more about their experiences being queer in a rural community. Refreshments provided.
The Augustana Psychology Club, Live Poets’ Society and AQUA have teamed up to put on an action-packed evening of creative expression. There will be an open mic as well as a paint night led by an instructor! Bannock, snacks, and refreshments will be provided.
Friday (March 1)
2 PM: Glam It Up Make-up and Styling Workshop in the Augustana Forum
Join Robyn Bank$ and Thomas Trombetta in the forum to learn about make-up and hairstyling – glamour 101!
Join AQUA, the ASA, and the Camrose Pride Community for the ultimate Pride Week celebration at the Bailey Theatre. Students and community members are invited to perform and compete as amateur drag performers to win awesome prizes. Hosted by Thomas Trombetta and Robyn Bank$ with guest star and judge Sister Mary Clarence. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults. Doors open at 6 PM and show starts at 7 PM!
