ASA election results and voter turnout by the numbers

Breakdowns of the Spring 2017 election results

From Wednesday, March 8 to Thursday, March 9, students went to the polls to elect next year’s student representatives and make their decision on referendum questions. The following is a breakdown of U of A wide voter turnout and the Augustana results:

Voter turnout

This graph below shows university-wide voter turn-out over the past three elections. Voter turnout was up significantly this election.

Voter turnout by faculty

This graph shows how Augustana stacked up this year compared to other faculties.


Vote times

This graph shows at what times students voted. Students could vote online anytime from when the polls opened on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 8 a.m. until they closed on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. Most students vote around noon, and most students voted on the first day of polling.

ASA Student Council and Executive election results

Students had the option to vote for the candidates running for each position of “none of the above” for each race.

ASA fee referendum results

How voter turnout varied by year and time of day, as well as how this year’s turnout compared to past elections.

Students also had the chance to vote in the ASA fee referendum to determine whether the ASA could continue collecting it’s $65.00 per term student fee. The referendum passed with just over 65% of the vote.
