Anime Festival coming to Camrose

Contests, guest speakers, gaming tournaments and more await at the historic Bailey Theatre for the Rose City Anime Festival. The festival, presented by Anime Hypercubed, is a fun filled day for everyone from the casual gamer to the avid anime expert.

The 2016 festival on Sunday, Oct. 16 will be the third time the event has been held thanks to the continued efforts of chief organizer, Grace Hope, and her two daughters, Paige Hope and Cathy Marcinkoski. “We’d like to sell out all 400 seats,” said Hope.

This year’s festival has a full day of entertainment for all ages, here are the top four features to look out for:

  1. Voice actor and Smash Bros. player extraordinaire, Sean Chiplock, will sign autographs and hang out with the crowd. He will also be hosting a side event during the Smash Bros. tournament where you can challenge him to a match.
  2. Cosplayer Kira Buckland, the voice of Izumo from Blue Exorcist and Mimete from the new Sailor Moon, will be signing autographs and will make an appearance on the guest panel on stage at 11 a.m.
  3. Enter the Cosplay Contest to win up to $300, or watch and support all the great competitors. Register before the pre-judging at 2 p.m. in the lobby and get ready to walk the stage at 4:30 p.m. for final judging. Please bring a photo of the character you are cosplaying as for the judges to review.
  4. There will be a Smash Bros. 4 Tournament at 1 p.m. Test your skills or cheer on your fellow gamers as they brawl for bragging rights and more. The Tournament will take place in the building across from Bailey Theatre that used to house Ken’s Furniture. The Entry fee is $5 and you must bring your own controller and pre-register as space is limited. Participants are asked to register by 12:30 p.m.

Doors open at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 16 at the Bailey Theatre located at 5041-50 Street in downtown Camrose straight north of the Augustana Campus. Advanced tickets are $15 while tickets at the door are $20. Tickets can be purchased online or by visiting Anime Hypercubed at 5015-46 Street in downtown Camrose.
