Successful candidates Racquel Deveau, Peter Ogunmodede, Alex Ho, Peace Tokode, Natasha Mutize, Ivy Njoroge, Aliya Kadir and Emily MacMillan will be taking up their respective roles for this academic year by working together on this year’s ASA Student Council to better the Augustana community.

Peter Ogunmodede and Racquel Deveau won the First Year Representative race with 85 and 54 votes respectively in the only contested race of the election.

“I’m very happy with the turnout of the voters,” said Ogunmodede. “I was actually quite surprised with the number of votes I received but I’m very happy, thank you everyone who voted for me.” Deveau was unavailable for comment by the time of this writing.

Alex Ho was elected Second Year Representative with 26 votes.

“It feels great. I would never have thought I would be doing this even 3 years ago but here I am,” said Alex. “I’m really excited to get more involved with the school and hopefully get the students more engaged this year.

“I’m excited to be working with the executive team this year and all of my fellow council members. I’d like to throw out a big thanks to the execs and Jacob Rohloff for doing a fantastic job.”

Third Year Representative was won by Peace Takode with 19 votes.

“Feels good, I’m able to represent my fellow students,” said Takode. “I’m able to be a voice and keep track of what’s going on in my surroundings.”

Ivy Njoroge was elected Councilor at Large with 174 votes.

“I am very excited for the year ahead,” said Njoroge. “I think that we have a really great team and we have the potential to achieve a lot.”

Natasha Mutize was elected Fourth Year Representative, Aliya Kadir International Student Representative and Emily MacMillan Aboriginal Students’ Representative with 17, 18 and seven votes respectively. Mutize, Kadir, and MacMillan had not responded to the Medium’s request for comment by the time of this writing.

The members of the ASA Student Council are elected to operate both as individuals and a team to responsibly represent the best interests of the Augustana student body. Throughout the academic year, the ASA plans and hosts social events and advocates on behalf of Augustana students.
